Turramurra to Castle Hill is a classic Sydney family-relocation lane. Upper North Shore parents shifting to a bigger block in the Hills. Growing families trading Ku-ring-gai cul-de-sacs for Castle Hill’s newer developments. Empty-nesters going the other way. The cost and timing are predictable once you know the route and the access at both ends — here’s the practical breakdown.
The short version
Distance: roughly 15km, mostly on Ryde Road through Lane Cove National Park. Drive time: 25–35 minutes off-peak; 40–50 minutes in weekday peak. Typical cost: $1,470–$1,890 + GST for a 3-bed house on our 3-mover crew ($210/hr). Total time on the clock: 7–9 hours for a 3-bed, most of it spent on the load-out and load-in. Biggest variable: whether you’re a single-level or two-storey house on each side. Two-storey adds about an hour to a full-house move.
Both ends are family homes — the truck is the constant, the access is the variable
Both Turramurra and Castle Hill are dominated by 3- and 4-bedroom detached family homes with driveway access. This is one of the most straightforward move patterns we run — kerbside parking is easy, driveways are usually drivable, and interior stair counts are typically zero (single-level) or one (two-storey). The main variables are:
- Storey count. A two-storey Turramurra house takes about an hour longer on the load-out than a single-level equivalent, and the same is true at the Castle Hill end.
- Crew size. For a 3-bedroom home, our 3-mover crew at $210/hr will almost always beat a 2-mover crew at $150/hr on total cost — the hours drop by a third because the load moves twice as fast. For a 4-bedroom home, the 4-mover big-truck crew at $300/hr often finishes in one truck load instead of two.
- Truck size. A full 3-bedroom load usually needs a 10-tonne pantech. A 4-bedroom home often calls for the bigger truck. We match the truck to the load on the quote call.
The drive: Ryde Road vs the M2
The default route for a Turramurra → Castle Hill move is Ryde Road westbound through Lane Cove National Park, then Cutler Parade to Old Northern Road, then Windsor Road into Castle Hill. Off-peak this is 25–35 minutes for a moving truck.
The M2 alternative — Turramurra to Pacific Highway south, Lane Cove Tunnel, M2 westbound to Castle Hill — is often quicker mid-day for a car. For a truck at peak times it’s usually slower, because:
- M2 westbound afternoons (3:30pm–6pm) are heavy with commuter traffic
- The Lane Cove Tunnel adds tolls that stack up on a full-day move
- Truck exits at the Castle Hill end of the M2 feed through a busy interchange
For most Turramurra → Castle Hill moves we run, Ryde Road is the more reliable choice across the day. It’s a two-lane arterial through parkland with predictable timing.
Timing to plan around:
- Weekday 8am–9am eastbound Ryde Road (i.e. the direction we’re not going, but relevant if any crew has to double back): heavy commuter flow.
- Weekday 4pm–6pm westbound: also heavy. If a load-out finishes at 3:30pm, expect the drive to add 15 minutes.
- Weekend mornings: cleanest window. A Saturday 8am start beats a weekday 10am start on drive time.
What the move actually looks like on the day
Here’s a typical Turramurra → Castle Hill move — 3-bedroom single-level house at each end, 3-mover crew, standard driveway access.
8:00am: Crew arrives at Turramurra address. Truck backs into or beside the driveway. Floor runners laid through main hallway. Two movers start on furniture disassembly (beds, dining table); one starts on boxed items.
8:00am–1:00pm: Full load-out. A single-level 3-bed with pre-packed boxes typically loads in 4–5 hours with a 3-mover crew. Furniture is blanket-wrapped and strapped in the truck as it goes on.
1:00pm–1:30pm: Truck drives Turramurra → Castle Hill via Ryde Road. Off-peak this is 25–30 minutes. Crew can grab lunch during the drive.
1:30pm–4:00pm: Load-in at Castle Hill. Truck reverses onto driveway. Furniture positioned room-by-room per your instructions. Beds reassembled. Blanket wrap removed. Floor runners lifted after the last box is in.
4:00pm–4:30pm: Final walkthrough with you. Confirm nothing left in the truck. Sign-off and payment.
Total on the clock: 7.5–8 hours at $210/hr + GST = $1,575–$1,680 + GST for a 3-bed with no complications.
Cost by home size
| Home size | Crew | Typical hours | Estimated cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2-bed downsize apartment | 3 movers | 5–7 hours | $1,050–$1,470 + GST |
| 3-bed single-level house | 3 movers | 7–9 hours | $1,470–$1,890 + GST |
| 3-bed two-storey house | 3 movers | 8–10 hours | $1,680–$2,100 + GST |
| 4-bed family home | 4 movers | 8–10 hours | $2,400–$3,000 + GST |
| 5-bed executive home | 4 movers | 10–12 hours | $3,000–$3,600 + GST |
All prices + GST, based on our published hourly rates. Minimum charge is 3 hours.
Three things that shift the cost on this route
1. Two-storey vs single-level at either end.
An upstairs master bedroom, upstairs kids’ rooms, or an upstairs living area on either side of the move adds roughly an hour to the full move because each item has to come down the internal stairs, into the hall, out to the truck. Not a huge difference, but worth quoting accurately.
2. Pacific Highway timing at the Turramurra end.
If your Turramurra address is on or near the Pacific Highway, we push the load-out to a 10am start to avoid the southbound commuter peak. Streets deeper into Turramurra away from the Highway are fine at an 8am start.
3. Windsor Road school-run traffic at the Castle Hill end.
Between 3pm and 4:30pm on weekdays, Windsor Road and Old Northern Road slow noticeably around the school precincts. For a load-in on those roads, we aim to be done by mid-afternoon or start after 5pm.

The verdict
Turramurra → Castle Hill is a straightforward full-house move — the route is predictable, both ends have driveway access, and the cost is well-bracketed by home size and storey count. The two timing variables (Pacific Highway peaks at the Turramurra end, Windsor Road school-runs at the Castle Hill end) are easy to plan around with a mid-morning start.
